The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest wine competition of American Wines in the world with over 7,100 entries in 2017, has traditionally been the first competition of the year. Judges are selected throughout the major American wine regions to offer diversity of backgrounds to each judging panel. There is a major outreach of award recognition throughout the 30 plus page award special section of the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper. This is one of the few competitions that offer plaque awards for silver, gold, and higher awards for tasting room and winery outreach purposes. The San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Public Tasting at Fort Mason Center is February 17, 2018 is available for all wineries participating in the competition. It gives the wineries an opportunity to showcase their wines to over 5,000 consumers of the Bay Area.

Wineries are encouraged to reserve a table when registering their wines on enofileonline.com as tables to the public tasting are limited to first come, first serve. The price of a table will increase to $150.00 after December 31, 2017. There will be no refunds on tables.

Any grape or fruit grown in the United States on a bonded premises is eligible for entry.

Deadline for sending wine is December 12, 2017
An official entry shall consist of one of the following:

  1. Six 750ml bottles
  2. Three 1L bottles, carafes or boxes
  3. Three 1.5 L Bottles
  4. Six 375ml or 500ml bottles
  5. Two 3L Boxes
  6. One 5L Box

Types of products include: wine, brandy, port, sherry, cider, low alcohol wine, de-alcoholized wine, vermouth & mead.

All wines delivered will not be returned to the winery. All wines, including leftover wines, belong to the Cloverdale Citrus Fair and will be used for beneficiary and staffing purposes by the Cloverdale Citrus Fair.

Receiving times for hand delivery are 9am to 4pm, Monday thru Friday. No deliveries will be accepted on Saturday, Sunday or Holidays.

The entering winery is responsible for shipping costs of their wines. No C.O.D.

Double check to make sure the wines that are shipped match the entry form. The SFCWC will not ship wines back to wineries that were incorrectly sent.

Ship one label or one additional bottle for wine label contest. Entry fees are the same as a wine entry. Label entries must be included on the entry form. If only sending a label, put it in a marked envelope “For Label Contest” to be included with your wine shipment. If using a wine bottle for the label contest, please mark the bottle. Do not include a wine label in your
shipment unless you are entering the label contest.

  • The wine entered must be part of a single lot of at least 60 gallons of identical finished wine.
  • There is no limit to the number of entries of a winery.
  • Only fruit and grapes grown in the United States on a bonded premises are eligible for entry.
  • No wine may be entered more than once by an entrant even if it is marked under a different label.

All gold and sweepstakes winners will be recognized in the San Francisco Chronicle special section on February 11, 2018.

Award plaques will be sent to wineries that have reserved a table at the public tasting prior to the event. Please include a physical address as Fed EX & UPS will not deliver to a P.O. Box. All other plaques will be sent after the public tasting.
