The largest competition of American wines in the world!
Marketing Communications, Paul Hobbs Wines, Sebastopol, CA
Having grown up in Healdsburg, deep in the heart of Sonoma County wine country, Chris caught the “wine bug” during high school while working as a cellar hand at wineries in the Dry Creek Valley.
Following graduation from U.C. Berkeley and a stint working as a sports and politics writer, Chris eventually made his way back to the wine business in sales at Scott Street Portfolio, which imported boutique Southern Hemisphere wines with a focus on terroir. After a year, he was managing all of California, the largest wine market in the United States.
In 2002, Chris moved back to wine country to join E. & J. Gallo as the public relations project manager at their Healdsburg winery. The next five years would be instrumental in learning fine wine public relations and marketing.
In January of 2007, Chris left Gallo for Merryvale Vineyards in St. Helena, Napa Valley, to become Director of Marketing and Communications, and in 2013, Chris joined Paul Hobbs to manage Marketing and Communications for Paul’s numerous projects domestically and beyond.
Chris has been been judging wine professionally for ten years at some of the most prestigious competitions in the world, including San Francisco Chronicle, Bacchus Madrid, North of the Gate, Jerry Mead and Finger Lakes International.
Chris lives in Northern Sonoma County with his wife Alexandra, son
Liam and daughter Sophia Jane. In their free time they enjoy raucous
dinner parties, tennis, travel and living a blessed life in wine
