We are saddened to hear of the passing of Diane Teitelbaum, one of the most influential wine writers, consultants, educator and appraisers of the century.  Diane brought her professionalism and expertise to wine circles and has been an integral part of our competition since its inception in the 1980’s as the former Cloverdale Citrus Fair Wine Competition.  For the past 15 years, since the evolution of the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC), Diane has been a respected judge at our competition bringing her knowledge and expertise in wine, as well as pairing and hospitality to the judging panels.   According to Bob Fraser, executive director of the SFCWC, “It is like losing a family member.  She was one of the nicest people I knew and was a leading judge in our competition.  As our competition grew, so did Diane’s help and leadership; she  graciously became a mentor to many of the new wine judges.  Diane was a revered national wine writer, with an impeccable palate and a flair for writing that captured food and wine lovers across the country.  I am proud to call her a very, very good friend and know that she will be tremendously missed by all.”
